AI4AgroIoT – AI and IoT solutions for precision farming Intelligent, sustainable agricultural systems
PROJECT OVERVIEW
AI4AgroIoT is an Erasmus+ KA220-HED Cooperation Partnership project that aims to support the digital and green transformation of agriculture by integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies into higher education.
The project responds to the growing need for climate-smart, data-driven agricultural practices and addresses skills gaps in the use of digital technologies for precision farming. By combining academic expertise, applied research, and industry experience, AI4AgroIoT supports the development of future-ready competencies for students and educators in the agrifood sector.
AI4AgroIoT promotes innovation in teaching and learning through interdisciplinary curricula, practical training, and open-access digital resources that contribute to more resilient and sustainable agricultural systems in Europe.


PROJECT OBJECTIVES
The main objectives of AI4AgroIoT are to:
- Develop and integrate an ECTS-accredited curriculum focused on AI and IoT applications in agriculture
- Strengthen digital competences of students and academic staff in precision farming and environmental monitoring
- Promote climate-smart and sustainable agricultural practices through data-driven decision-making
- Foster university–industry collaboration by using real-world case studies and applied learning scenarios
- Ensure open access to digital learning resources through an online educational platform
KEY ACTIVITIES AND OUTPUTS
AI4AgroIoT includes a set of coordinated activities designed to bridge theory and practice in digital agriculture:
- Design and implementation of an AI- and IoT-based agritech curriculum, aligned with higher education standards and awarded ECTS credits
- Development of SmartAgriEdu, an open-access digital learning platform featuring AI modules, virtual demonstrations, and learning resources
- Organization of hands-on workshops, training sessions, and virtual learning activities for students and educators
- Integration of precision agriculture case studies, including remote sensing, sensor-based monitoring, and AI-driven data analysis
- Collaboration with industry partners to ensure practical relevance and real-world applicability of learning outcomes

CONSORTIUM PARTNERS

USAMV coordinates the AI4AgroIoT project and is responsible for overall project management, financial oversight, and compliance with Erasmus+ quality standards. The university plays a central role in integrating Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things technologies into higher education, combining academic excellence with applied research.
Within the project, USAMV co-leads the development and integration of the AI and IoT curriculum and hosts hands-on training activities at its Educational and Research Station, where smart farming technologies, drones, and IoT sensors are deployed for practical learning. USAMV also leads dissemination and scaling activities, ensuring the visibility, sustainability, and long-term impact of project results.
Hochschule Geisenheim University (HGU), Germany – WP2 Lead – Course development and sustainability
Hochschule Geisenheim University leads the development of the AI-driven agronomy curriculum within AI4AgroIoT. With strong expertise in precision agriculture, sustainability, and carbon monitoring, HGU ensures that the course content is academically rigorous and aligned with current industry and environmental standards.
HGU contributes research data from field trials and supports the integration of AI-based crop monitoring, sensor applications, and climate-smart agricultural practices. The university also plays a key role in quality assurance and academic validation of the curriculum.
Institut Polytechnique UniLaSalle, France – WP4 Lead – SmartAgriEdu digital platform
UniLaSalle leads the development of SmartAgriEdu, the open-access digital learning platform of the project. The institution brings extensive experience in digital education, GIS integration, and AI-powered drone applications for agriculture.
Within AI4AgroIoT, UniLaSalle contributes to curriculum development and ensures that learning materials, case studies, and workshop outputs are transformed into accessible digital resources. The university supports innovative teaching methods that combine virtual learning with real-world agritech applications.
Istanbul Technical University (ITU), Türkiye – Remote sensing, GIS and AI expertise
Istanbul Technical University contributes advanced expertise in remote sensing, geospatial analysis, and AI-based image processing. ITU develops learning modules focused on satellite data, Earth observation, and AI-driven agricultural analytics, including the use of tools such as Google Earth Engine.
The university supports technical training activities and expert-led sessions, strengthening students’ and educators’ skills in AI-powered monitoring and data-driven decision-making for precision agriculture.
Doğuş University, Türkiye – Entrepreneurship and agribusiness innovation
Doğuş University integrates entrepreneurship and business development into the AI4AgroIoT curriculum. The institution focuses on bridging the gap between technology and market application by equipping students with skills in agribusiness, AI-powered farm management, and startup creation.
Within the project, Doğuş University contributes to workshops and training sessions on AgriTech entrepreneurship, innovation, and commercialization, helping students transform digital solutions into viable business models.
Terrasigna, Romania – Industry partner – AI and real-world data
Terrasigna is the industry partner of AI4AgroIoT, providing real-world AI datasets, case studies, and practical expertise in remote sensing and Earth observation. The company supports the integration of AI-based decision-support systems and smart irrigation solutions into the curriculum.
Through its involvement, Terrasigna ensures that the project’s educational content is closely aligned with industry needs and that students gain hands-on experience working with real agricultural data and AI-driven technologies.
Together, the AI4AgroIoT consortium combines academic excellence, applied research, and industry expertise to support the digital and green transformation of agriculture in Europe.
