The third edition of the International Spring School Advanced Remote Sensing – Focus on Agriculture was completed today at USAMV Bucharest. For one week, 30 researchers, students and specialists from Romania and abroad participated in an intensive learning and collaboration program, which covered the full spectrum of precision agriculture: from satellite monitoring and wireless sensors, to climate risk modeling and the use of Big Data.
The event was hosted by the Faculty of Land Improvement and Environmental Engineering within USAMV Bucharest and took place under the auspices of the AgroCliN Center of Excellence Project – coordinated by the Rector of USAMV Bucharest, prof. Dr. Sorin Mihai Cîmpeanu. The project aims to transform agriculture through advanced practices leading to sustainability and climate resilience.
A debut under the sign of excellence
The event was officially opened by prof. Dr. Razvan Teodorescu, Vice-Chancellor, together with the management team of the faculty, represented by university associate. Dr. Augustina Tronac, Dean and University Prof. Dr. Alina Ortan, Vice Dean.
The international dimension, the exchange of best practices and the transfer of knowledge were ensured by the presence of international guests and strategic partners, such as: Dr. Deodato Tapete (Italian Space Agency), Dr. Camelia Kantor and Dr. Mihail Kantor (Pennsylvania State University), Dr. Anca Anghelea (European Space Agency), Dafina Jeaca (OGOR founder), Andi Lazar and Adrian Moldovan (TERRASIGNA), Dr. Daniela Faur, Dr. Dragoș Săcăleanu and Dr. Teodor Costăchioiu (Polytechnic University of Bucharest), Dr. Diana Dogaru (Institute of Geography of the Romanian Academy).
AgroCliN’s vision, at the center of academic activities
Along with the contribution of all the guests, the program offered an innovative mix of theoretical and applied sessions based on the speeches of key experts of the AgroCliN Project: Dr. Cristian Moise, Prof. Dr. Liliana Bădulescu, Prof. Dr. Beatrice Iacomi and Prof. Dr. Ovidiu Jerca.
The practical component was essential, including technical visits to the Research Center for the Study of the Quality of Agri-Food Products, the university’s greenhouse, the Dendrological Park and the University’s Botanical Garden, as well as a field trip to the “Pietroasa” Research-Development Station for Viticulture and Winemaking (from Buzau County).
The courses ended with a student competition and a closing ceremony that validated the skills acquired by the participants.
The event was coordinated by university professor Dr. Iulia Dana, with the support of the Dean of the Faculty of Conf. Univ. Dr. Augustina Tronac and a dedicated team: assistant. Dr. Cristina Mihalache, lecturer Dr. Marinela Gheorghe and lecturer Dr. Bogdan Erghelegiu.
An edition with an impact on the academic community
By combining theoretical and practical sessions with field applications, the 2026 edition strengthened USAMV Bucharest’s status as an international hub of excellence in research dedicated to remote sensing applied in agriculture.
