Prof. univ. dr. Florin Stănică, vice-rector of USAMV Bucharest and corresponding member of the Romanian Academy, was elected President of ASAS

Prof. univ. dr. Florin Stănică, vice-rector of the University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine in Bucharest, won the elections for the Presidency of the “Gheorghe Ionescu-Sișești” Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences. He had counter-candidates the renowned specialists Aurel Badiu and Ioan Jelev, the current acting president of ASAS.

The election was extremely close, with the final result being decided in the second round. The four-year term will begin on January 1, 2026.

With this choice, the USAMV Bucharest academic community expresses its confidence in the contribution and vision of Professor Florin Stănică for the development and consolidation of ASAS in the coming years.

Short biography

Prof. univ. dr. Florin Stănică is a professor at the Faculty of Horticulture of USAMV Bucharest and vice-rector of the university since 2008. A graduate of USAMV Bucharest and a doctor in Agronomy (1996), he has over 38 years of professional experience in the field of horticulture, fruit growing and horticultural biotechnologies.

He is a corresponding member of the Romanian Academy (since 2021), a corresponding member of the Accademia dei Georgofili in Florence and president of the Association of Life Sciences Universities in Central and Eastern Europe – CASEE. Throughout his career, he has coordinated or participated in more than 59 national and international research projects and has been a PhD supervisor since 2009.

His scientific activity includes 381 published articles, 39 books and chapters, over 1500 citations. He is the author and co-author of 27 registered horticultural varieties, of which 19 are patented, as well as the laureate of numerous national and international awards, including the Order of the “Crown of Romania” in the rank of Knight.

Prof. Florin Stănică is also the organizer and co-organizer of major international scientific events, such as the European Horticultural Congress 2024, several editions of the International Chinese Date Symposium and the ISHS Peach Symposium.
